This colorful insect has already been named a potential frontrunner.

The Masked Singer’s latest wildcard is pulling at judges’ heartstrings with his moving story and incredible voice. The Fox singing competition show welcomed Caterpillar on to the stage as the first wildcard for Group B and the vibrant contestant instantly sparked everyone’s curiosity.

Judge Nicole Scherzinger couldn’t help but shed a tear hearing Caterpillar sing “If I Were a Boy” by Beyoncé. The Masked Singer audience also got on their feet and gave the charismatic insect a standing ovation. What’s more, judge Jenny McCarthy agreed it was an emotional performance a front-runner would put on.

So, who could be talented enough to be under that bright getup? There are already guesses but to help you make up your own mind, here’s what we know so far:

First thing’s first, Caterpillar shared a lot about himself during his introduction and there’s plenty to unpack, including the details of his costume:

The new contestant also opened up that his background inspired his Masked Singer attire and offer other important information. “I chose the caterpillar costume because ultimately, my whole life has been all about metamorphosis,” he said. “Growing up, I was lonely. You know, things weren’t always great at home, and I was rebelling, so I left home at a young age.”

Caterpillar continued: “At some point, I slept in my car, was homeless and even started stealing to make ends meet. My parents used to tell me that I was gonna end up in jail and boy, were they right. I think the thing that throws me the most was all of those voices from my past telling me I’d never amount to anything. Well, I showed them. Tonight, this wildcard is here to steal your day and hope you forget all about these other singers and only have eyes for me.”

With this intel and his performance, judges got having “boy band” vibes and guessed that Caterpillar could be Backstreet Boys member AJ McLean. But do you think it could be an NBA player instead?
