Nick Mangold thought he was recording a podcast alongside former New York Jets teammate Mark Sanchez on Thursday. Instead, the former Ohio State offensive lineman found out that he was headed into the Jets' Ring of Honor alongside former teammates D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Darrelle Revis.
"This is a shock," Mangold said when he was informed of the inductions by Jets chairman Woody Johnson. "Thank you so much. This is awesome and amazing since it's with two of my guys. Revis, it was outstanding just being on the team with you, your presence was amazing. To share this honor with you is awesome. Brick, we started this together back in Mobile, Alabama (at the Senior Bowl) and now we close it up together. That's very special to me and something that is an awesome thing. Congratulations you two. I feel like I'm the third wheel here, so I appreciate you guys letting me in. But it's definitely an honor and I can't wait to start the celebrations."
Mangold was drafted by New York in the first round, the 29th overall pick, of the 2006 NFL Draft and played 11 seasons in the League, all with the Jets. Mangold became a starter from day one in New York and appeared in 171 games overall at center, including the first 89 games he played, missing only 12 throughout his career.
During his NFL career, Mangold helped the Jets finish in the top 10 in rushing six times, including No. 1 in the League in 2009 and fourth in 2010. He was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times, the second most in New York's franchise history, and was twice named first-team All-Pro. Mangold announced his retirement following the 2017 season.
Before becoming one of the most respected linemen in the NFL, Mangold was a star for Ohio State. Despite being only a three-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite, Mangold played in eight games as a true freshman as part of the Buckeyes' 2002 national championship team, serving as a backup for Alex Stepanovich. As a sophomore, Stepanovich suffered a knee injury in the second game of the season, opening the door for Mangold to start the final 11 games of the year at center. Even when Stepanovich returned, Mangold remained at center while the veteran shifted to guard.

Mangold earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in 2004. As a senior, Mangold was named both first-team All-Big Ten and first-team All-American.
Each of these three players will get their own Ring of Honor induction ceremony at Jets home games this season. Mangold’s will take place at halftime of New York's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 25.
